December 2013 Update

Addition of 6th grade and increase in target size
HART Friends Board recently met and approved increasing first year capacity and to add grade 6 to the school's proposed plan. This is great news for parents of current 4th grade students who will be entering grade 6 in the 2015-2016 school year. This decision was based on the fact that area charter school wait lists are the heaviest at grade 6. HART Friends wants to help with this problem by providing more charter school seats for students, especially where the need is great. If approved by the State, HART will open to grades 6-10 in it's first year and add grades 11 and 12 in years 2 and 3.

Charter application and activities update
We are seeking 300 signatures of community members or those meaningfully interested in seeing a new charter school in the Kona area. We also continue to collect survey data. Please click on the links for the survey and the petition on the home page of this blog. HART's application is due to the State by January 6, 2014. We are on track to submit by the first week of the new year. Please stay posted!

Why Creativity is Important

Sir Ken Robinson
This video addresses the fundamental economic, cultural, social and personal purposes of education. Sir Ken Robinson argues that education should be personalized to every student's talent, passion, and learning styles, and that creativity should be embedded in the culture of every single school.
